A Curriculum Unit Celebrating the Heritage
and Culture of a People

Do you know that in 1804, Toussaint L’Ouveture helped to lead the only known successful rebellion, led by enslaved Black people, over their oppressors?  Are you aware that the insurgence made Haiti the first Black independent republic in the Western Hemisphere? Facts such as these are detailed in this curriculum unit titled, Haiti and her People. The unit offers information about and resources to grasp the rich history of this Caribbean nation. Haiti and her People exists to replace falsehoods and stereotypes with truths and realities about Haitian culture.
